Break/fix begins after something goes wrong
Traditional break/fix support is event-driven: a computer fails, an employee loses access, a network stops working, or a security issue becomes visible. The provider diagnoses the immediate request and bills for the work performed.
This can make sense for an organization with minimal technology dependence or strong internal capability. For a growing business, however, unpredictable cost, inconsistent documentation, deferred maintenance, and limited monitoring can make reactive support increasingly expensive.
Managed IT establishes an ongoing operating relationship
A Managed IT agreement defines covered users, devices, networks, services, security controls, support, responsibilities, and pricing. Monitoring, patching, endpoint security, documentation, and employee support can then operate as coordinated parts of one relationship.
The goal is not to claim that failures never happen. It is to improve visibility, reduce preventable disruption, create a known support path, and make technology decisions before an emergency forces them.
Questions to ask before choosing
- How costly is employee downtime?
- Who monitors security alerts, updates, backups, and device health?
- Is technology documented well enough for another person to support it?
- Do employees know where to get help?
- Are projects, on-site service, after-hours support, and third-party subscriptions included or separate?
- Does the agreement clearly define scope and response expectations?
Managed IT memberships from The Computer Specialists start at $125/month and are customized to the environment.
